We get that actor and part-time Dior spokeswoman Natalie Portman is a private lady, but what we don’t get is why she just won’t come out and say whether or not she’s married to dancer Benjamin Millepied. But the wedding band they were both wearing on their left hands at the Oscars this weekend definitely seem to suggest that is the case.
A number of news outlets noticed that the two were wearing the bands on Sunday night, but since there’s been no formal announcement of their nuptials (or photos from the event or even errant tweets about it), a lot of people have questioned whether they’ve actually tied the knot. Portman announced that she and Millepied were going to have a baby and get married in December 2010, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they got married in a secret ceremony somewhere in Millepied’s native France. Or something. And that’s fine. But just tell us.
Further complicating things is jeweler Jamie Wolf, who told People she designed the wedding bands for both Portman and Millepied, but declined to say whether or not they were actually wed. And he would know — the couple chose him because she’s one of Millepied’s good friends. (She also designed Portman’s gigantic and sparkly engagement ring.)
We might be over thinking this, though. They’ve been living as a couple all along, and have been planning to get married for a while. Functionally, does it matter it they’ve tied the knot? Not really. We just want a little confirmation.
